What Is Speed Reading and How Do You Develop It?
Speed reading is the skill of training your eye muscles and increasing your mental processing speed to raise the number of words read per minute (WPM) without lowering comprehension. Traditionally we read through subvocalization — silently pronouncing each word in our head — which caps our speed at roughly speaking pace (150-200 WPM on average). Speed reading techniques teach you to perceive words in groups rather than one at a time.
Speed reading and strong comprehension are especially vital in exams that race against the clock, such as LGS, YKS, KPSS, and ALES. Quickly analyzing long passage questions and reaching the correct option gives students a serious time advantage. The On Eğitim Speed Reading Test doesn't just measure how fast you read — it verifies how accurately you understood what you read, through comprehension questions.
